Technically Speaking is a monthly column written by IAC’s Executive Director Deborah Wexler, MD. The column is featured in The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Vaccine Education Center’s (VEC’s) monthly e-newsletter for healthcare professionals. Technically Speaking columns cover practical topics in immunization delivery such as needle length, vaccine administration, cold chain, and immunization schedules.

The Email News Service section on the Immunization Action Coalition’s main website, contains descriptions of and gives subscription information for more than 25 free immunization-related e-newsletters published by government agencies, professional societies and others. Here are a few of them:
IAC Express – Immunization Action Coalition
Summary: Features the latest news about vaccine recommendations and licensures, new staff–education materials and patient handouts, conferences and other educational opportunities, and more.
Publication timetable: Every Tuesday

CDC Email Subscription Service – Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
Summary: Provides email notification of news and alerts related to immunization, including updated VISs, current vaccine delays and shortages, upcoming training opportunities, and immunization-related press releases and media advisories as published by CDC and associated agencies such as the FDA. Subscribers can select from a lengthy list to customize notifications to their specific area(s) of interest.
Publication timetable: Whenever new information becomes available

Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) – Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
Summary: Provides information about CDC’s vaccine recommendations and vaccine-preventable diseases, in addition to many other public health topics.
Publication timetable: Every Thursday
Subscribing information: Visit the MMWR website, check the “Get email updates” box at the top of the right column and provide your email address. (Note: You can also subscribe via CDC Email Subscription Service described above.)
Immunization Works – Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
Summary: Includes brief summaries of the latest immunization news, updated recommendations, vaccine-preventable disease incidence, influenza information, new/updated resources, and upcoming meetings and conferences.

Vaccine Update for Healthcare Providers – Vaccine Education Center at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (If you’re reading this, it’s likely you’re already a subscriber to this great newsletter!)
Summary: Keeps you up to date on vaccine-related issues; includes reviews of recently published journal articles, media recaps, Technically Speaking column, and announcements about new resources.

State and Local Immunization E-Newsletters
Summary: Many state/local immunization programs and coalitions publish newsletters containing information of specific interest to providers in the area. Check with your state/local program to see if you can sign up for email notification about these publications.

Subscribing information: Check with your state/local immunization program. Contact information for state and large city immunization programs is available through CDC.
