CDC PUBLISHES ANNOUNCEMENT OF SYMPOSIUM ON HEPATITIS AND LIVER DISEASE SET FOR APRIL 9-13, 2000
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published a "Notice to Readers" titled "Xth International
Symposium on Viral Hepatitis and Liver Disease" in the February 25, 2000, issue of the MMWR. The full text of the
"Notice" reads as follows:

Xth International Symposium on Viral Hepatitis and Liver Disease
The Public Health Service, in collaboration with the World Health Organization,
is sponsoring the Xth International Symposium on Viral Hepatitis and Liver Disease, which will be hosted by CDC. The meeting
will be held April 9-13, 2000, at the Marriott Marquis in Atlanta, Georgia.
The conference will include international experts to discuss the latest information about the molecular
biology, diagnosis, epidemiology, clinical outcome, treatment, and prevention of each type of viral
hepatitis. A major objective of the meeting is to highlight the importance of hepatitis surveillance,
research, treatment, vaccination, and prevention programs in the developing world.
The meeting will consist of plenary sessions, oral
and poster sessions based on submitted abstracts, and exhibits. Information about conference
registration is available through the symposium's World-Wide Web site, http://www.hep2000.com, or by telephone, (404)
233-4490. Proceedings of the symposium will be published in a comprehensive symposium book.

CDC PUBLISHES ANNOUNCEMENT OF UPCOMING CONFERENCE ON NOSOCOMIAL INFECTIONS, MARCH 5-9, 2000
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published a "Notice to Readers" titled "Fourth Decennial
International Conference on Nosocomial and Healthcare-Associated Infections" in the February 25, 2000, issue
of the MMWR. The "Notice" reads in part:
"CDC is sponsoring the Fourth Decennial International
Conference on Nosocomial and Healthcare-Associated Infections during March 5-9, 2000, at
the Hyatt Regency in Atlanta, Georgia. The conference will highlight new strategies for preventing infections and promoting safety
among patients and healthcare personnel. Key topics include patient safety, healthcare worker
safety, antimicrobial resistance, and bioterrorism preparedness."

BULK COPIES OF CDC's "WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT VACCINE INFORMATION STATEMENTS" ARE FREE FOR THE ORDERING!
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is distributing bulk copies of its 28-page booklet titled
"What You Need to Know about Vaccine Information Statements." Every provider of immunization services
should have a copy of this resource!
This document details the responsibilities of immunization providers regarding the use of Vaccine Information Statements
(VISs), and contains an informative question and answer section. In addition, the booklet includes a
camera-ready copy of almost every VIS that CDC publishes.
NOTE: This booklet provides comprehensive, practical, and legal information for providers of vaccine services. However,
a few items have been updated since the document was originally published including the date and version of
the current polio VIS. The polio VIS which all health care providers will need to
use beginning January 1, 2000, is NOT included in this booklet. Instead, the
most up-to-date polio VIS dated "1/1/2000" can be downloaded from CDC's
website and IAC's website or ordered from your state health department or CDC directly.

National Immunization Program (NIP) Information Center at (404) 639-8828 or send an e-mail to
lao1@cdc.gov Be sure to include your complete mailing address and the number

of Statements of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) delivered right to your door? The National Immunization
Program (NIP) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) offers this valuable
resource on its order form for free immunization materials titled "CDC/NIP Resource Request List."
Up to date as of September 1998, the complete set contains the full text of ACIP statements in
camera-ready format and three-hole punched, a set of tab dividers that separate each statement by topic,
and cover sheets for the face and binding of a 3-ring binder (in which you will definitely need to store
this weighty resource). In addition, CDC will also include camera-ready copies of all ACIP statements
published since September 1998. This combined ACIP set is truly a gift for anyone who works to stay
informed about U.S. vaccine recommendations.
