NEW HEPATITIS B WEB RESOURCE ON ASIAN AMERICANS AND PACIFIC ISLANDERS

The National Hepatitis B Task Force, in partnership with CDC's National Immunization Program (NIP), offers a new Internet resource for information on hepatitis B in Asian American and Pacific Islander communities.

The goal is to provide information to help increase the vaccination rates among Asian American and Pacific Islander children. The site includes information on the task force, related articles and links, and a PDF version of the Hepatitis B Task Force newsletter "Hepatitis B Matters," which focuses on the progress of hepatitis B immunization among Asian American and Pacific Islander children.

REMINDER! NATIONAL ADULT IMMUNIZATION AWARENESS WEEK 2000 IS OCTOBER 8-14

Get ready for National Adult Immunization Awareness Week 2000. Set for October 8-14, this annual event coordinated by the National Coalition for Adult Immunization (NCAI) increases public awareness about the importance of adult and adolescent immunization.

NCAI offers a campaign kit called "Prevention for a Healthy Future," filled with materials and resources to help promote adult and adolescent immunization. Clinics and organizations can duplicate materials and modify them as needed.

CDC'S "GUIDE TO CONTRAINDICATIONS TO CHILDHOOD VACCINATIONS" FOR THE YEAR 2000 IS NOW AVAILABLE

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released the 2000 edition of "Guide to Contraindications to Childhood Vaccinations."

According to CDC, this spiral-bound guide is designed to "help providers of childhood vaccinations decide what common symptoms and conditions should be considered contraindications to vaccination and which ones should not." The booklet has two major changes from the previous edition: the removal of rotavirus vaccine and the inclusion of the new pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV7).

JAMA OFFERS PATIENT EDUCATION PIECE ON RABIES

The "Journal of the American Medical Association" (JAMA) offers a new patient education piece titled "Rabies" in its issue dated August 23/30, 2000. Written in clear, nontechnical language, this education piece describes what rabies is and how it is transmitted, what people should do if they suspect they've been exposed, and resources to turn to for further information.

Every issue of JAMA features a patient education article on its back page. These education pieces may be reproduced noncommercially by physicians and other health professionals to share with patients.
