CDC'S NEW PNEUMOCOCCAL CONJUGATE AND HEPATITIS B VISs NOW AVAILABLE

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued new Vaccine Information Statements (VISs) for pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV7) and hepatitis B vaccine to replace the interim VISs issued in the year 2000.

The new VIS for PCV7 vaccine is dated 7/9/01 and the new VIS for hepatitis B vaccine is dated 7/11/01. Both VISs are now available on CDC's website and the website of the Immunization Action Coalition (IAC). Foreign-language translations of these new versions are not currently available.

Note: The pneumococcal conjugate VIS (dated 7/9/01) is to be used when administering this vaccine to infants and young children. It should not be confused with the pneumococcal polysaccharide VIS (dated 7/29/97), which is used for persons 65 years of age and older as well as other high-risk
individuals.
