CDC'S NATIONAL IMMUNIZATION PROGRAM ISSUES INFLUENZA VACCINE BULLETIN #8
On September 17, CDC's National Immunization Program issued the eighth in a series of influenza vaccine bulletins
designed to update health professionals on the supply, distribution, and administration of influenza vaccine for
the 2001-2002 influenza season.
Of special note are two items: "The FDA is again allowing health care providers to sell, buy or transfer influenza
vaccine this year" and "Medicare has given guidance to carriers about updating payment rates for influenza
vaccine."

ARIZONA IMMUNIZATION PROGRAM'S ANNUAL CONFERENCE SET FOR NOVEMBER 1-2 IN PHOENIX
Arizona's Immunization Program will hold its Eighth Annual Immunization Conference on November 1-2 at the YWCA Leadership
Development Center in Phoenix.
One of the featured speakers (three sessions) is William L. Atkinson, MD, MPH, medical epidemiologist with CDC's
National Immunization Program.
Agenda topics include an immunization update, global polio eradication efforts, influenza pandemic, and meningococcal
disease prevention.

CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SERVICES PRESENTS COURSE ON VACCINE-PREVENTABLE DISEASES, NOVEMBER 5-6 AND
NOVEMBER 8-9
The California Department of Health Services, Immunization Branch, is presenting its "Epidemiology and Prevention of
Vaccine-Preventable Diseases" course in Norwalk (Los Angeles), November 5-6, and in Folsom
(Sacramento), November 8-9. This course is designed to provide updates on schedules, contraindications, standard immunization
practices, and vaccine management and safety. The CDC-accredited course provides 15 continuing
medical education credit hours for physicians and 15 contact hours for California RNs. The course being held in Folsom is now
full, but spaces remain in the Norwalk course. The registration fee is $40.

CDC SPONSORS MEETINGS ON STD/HIV PREVENTION FOR MSM
CDC is sponsoring four regional meetings this year titled
"Emerging Issues and STD/HIV Prevention Services for Men Who Have Sex with Men
[MSM]."
- The first regional meeting, CDC's 2001 Southern Region
Meeting on MSM and STD/HIV Prevention, will be held September 24-25 at the Radisson Hotel
New Orleans in Louisiana. The registration deadline for this meeting was
September 7, but last-minute faxed registrations are encouraged, and onsite
registration will be available.
- CDC's 2001 Midwestern Region Meeting on MSM and STD/HIV
Prevention will be held October 30-31 at the Holiday Inn City Centre in
Chicago, Illinois. The registration deadline for this meeting is September

- The 2001 Western Region Meeting on MSM and STD/HIV
Prevention will be held November 26-27 at the University of Southern California in Los
