NEW: CDC ISSUES COMPREHENSIVE INTERIM GUIDELINE FOR PLANNING FOR AN
INFLUENZA VACCINE SHORTAGE DURING THE 2005-06 SEASON
CDC recently posted "Interim Guideline: Planning for a Possible U.S.
Influenza Vaccine Shortage, 2005-06" to its influenza web section. The
document is intended to aid state and local public health and immunization
programs plan for and deal with an influenza vaccine shortage, if one occurs
during the 2005-06 influenza season.
The bulk of the guideline is a compendium of planning practices and
activities that proved necessary and effective at state and local levels
during the 2004-05 influenza vaccine shortage.

LOOKING FOR SOURCES OF PRESENTATION MATERIAL? ONLINE POWERPOINT SLIDES PUT
VALUABLE INFORMATION AT YOUR FINGERTIPS
As part of National Immunization Awareness Month, NIP Acting Director
Stephen L. Cochi, MD, MPH, recently addressed the National Press Club. In
his presentation, he summarized the results of CDC's 2005 National
Immunization Survey, demonstrating our nation's success in achieving its
highest vaccination coverage levels to date. His presentation covered a wide
range of other vaccine issues, including morbidity statistics for each
vaccine-preventable disease past and present, vaccines in development, and
challenges facing our nation's immunization program.
PowerPoint slides from Dr. Cochi's address are now available on IAC's
website. Health professionals will find them useful when creating their own

AUGUST ISSUE OF CDC'S IMMUNIZATION WORKS ELECTRONIC NEWSLETTER NOW AVAILABLE
ON THE NIP WEBSITE
The August issue of Immunization Works, a monthly email newsletter published
by CDC, is available on NIP's website. The newsletter offers members of the
immunization community non-proprietary information about current topics. CDC
encourages its wide dissemination.
Much of the information in the August issue has already appeared in previous
issues of IAC Express. Following is the text of one article we have not
covered.

OTHER IMMUNIZATION NEWS
TYPHIM VI VACCINE NOW AVAILABLE: Sanofi pasteur MSD, manufacturer of the
injectable typhoid vaccine (Typhim Vi), announced that the vaccine is now
available in single-dose Luer-Lok pre-filled syringes. The 20-dose vials are
expected to be available in late July or early August. A temporary shortage
of the vaccine, which began in February 2005, was attributed to unexpected

AUGUST 12 ISSUE OF IAC'S HEP EXPRESS ELECTRONIC NEWSLETTER NOW AVAILABLE

The August 12 issue of Hep Express, an electronic newsletter published by
IAC, is now available online. It is intended for health and social service
professionals involved in the prevention and treatment of viral hepatitis.
