VERY IMPORTANT NEWS! RIGHT NOW YOU CAN DOWNLOAD FIVE NEW VISs!

CDC has just released the new VISs for chickenpox, hepatitis B, MMR, Hib, and polio. Remember, you must give your patients the most current VISs so click away!

Chickenpox VIS (12/16/98) http://www.immunize.org/vis/varic99.pdf
Hepatitis B VIS (12/16/98) http://www.immunize.org/vis/hepb99.pdf
MMR VIS (12/16/98) http://www.immunize.org/vis/mmr99.pdf
Hib VIS (12/16/98) http://www.immunize.org/vis/hib99.pdf
Polio VIS (2/1/99) http://www.immunize.org/vis/polio99.pdf

If you would like to obtain VISs for the other vaccines (DTaP, rotavirus, Td, hepatitis A, influenza, and pneumococcal), visit the Immunization Action Coalition's VIS web page at http://www.immunize.org/vis

Need a refresher course on what to do with the VISs? Some of the legal requirements concerning their use are as follows:

1. Before a routine childhood vaccine is administered to anyone (this includes adults!) you must give the patient or the parent/guardian a copy of the most current Vaccine Information Statement (VIS) available for that vaccine. Make sure you give your patient time to read the VIS prior to the administration of the vaccine.

2. You must record in your patient's chart the date that the VIS was given.

3. You must also record on the patient's chart the publication date of the VIS, a date which appears on the bottom of the VIS.
