ATENCION! ASK YOUR LOCAL TELEVISION AND RADIO STATIONS TO AIR SPANISH LANGUAGE PSAS!
Please help reach the families of the more than one million Hispanic children nationwide
who are not fully protected against vaccine-preventable diseases. The Centers for Disease
Control (CDC) has distributed PSAs on childhood immunization in Spanish to
Spanish-language television and radio stations throughout the United States. Please help
to get them aired!
CDC would like us all to take a moment and call our local Spanish-language media stations
and urge them to broadcast the PSAs. April 18-24 is National Childhood Immunization Week
so now is the perfect time for the media to reach out to their Spanish-speaking viewers
and listeners.
"On time, every time" is the message. The PSAs focus on the importance of
childhood immunizations and are culturally tailored to Hispanic lifestyles and traditions.
The radio announcements feature popular singer Jon Secada and his wife talking about the
role both parents play in ensuring their children's health. On television, the
announcements follow diverse Hispanic families in their own home environments as they call
in to CDC's Spanish-language immunization hotline (1-800-232-0233).
According to Jose Cordero, MD, MPH, Deputy Director, National Immunization Program,
research has shown that PSAs and the media are effective in reaching Hispanic parent
audiences. Please don't let these important immunization messages gather dust on the
shelves. Call now!
There is also a colorful 24" x 18" poster and desk notepads that have the same
theme as the PSAs' messages. Featuring a young Hispanic family in transit to the clinic,
the poster highlights CDC's national Spanish-language immunization hotline as a free,
confidential information service. The poster costs $5.00. Discounts are available for
orders of increased quantities. To order the poster and/or notepads, call (202) 342-0676
or write to HMA Associates, 1000 Thomas Jefferson Street, NW, Suite 309, Washington DC,
20007.
And remember! Let's make every week National Vaccinate Everyone Week! |
