FDA APPROVES LICENSE FOR NABI'S HEPATITIS B IMMUNE GLOBULIN

On March 24, 1999, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved a license application for Nabi-HB, a Hepatitis B Immune Globulin (Human) (HBIG) manufactured by Nabi of Boca Raton, FL.

Nabi-HB is indicated for the treatment of acute exposure to HBsAg, perinatal exposure of infants born to HBsAg-positive mothers, sexual exposure to HBsAg-positive persons, and household exposure of infants to persons with acute HBV infection. The product is marketed in 1mL and 5mL vial sizes.

Nabi-HB is one of two HBIG products licensed for use in the United States. The other is BAYERHEP B, which is manufactured by Bayer Pharmaceuticals.

REMEMBER! ALL KIDS COUNT REGISTRY CONFERENCE IS NEXT WEEK APRIL 27-30

Spring comes to Minnesota just in time for the All Kids Count (AKC) Immunization Registry Conference. The conference will be held in St. Paul on April 27-30, 1999. This year's conference will emphasize solutions to common barriers affecting broad implementation of immunization registries and integration with larger public health information systems.

The 1999 AKC conference is being co-sponsored by CDC's National Immunization Program Registry Clearinghouse, the Information Network for Public Health Officials project, and the Minnesota Department of Health.

All Kids Count (AKC) has published the first two issues of "SnapShots," an electronic newsletter about the progress, best practices, and accomplishments of immunization registries across the country.

IT PAYS TO REGISTER NOW FOR CDC'S NATIONAL IMMUNIZATION CONFERENCE JUNE 22-25

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's 33rd National Immunization Conference will be held June 22-25, 1999, in Dallas, Texas. Register now and you are still eligible for the regular registration fee of $85. If you register after June 7, the registration fee is $100.

NATIONAL ADULT IMMUNIZATION CONFERENCE IS SET FOR JUNE 21-22

The Health Care Financing Administration, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the National Coalition for Adult Immunization, invite you to register for the fourth National Adult Immunization Conference. The conference will be held at the Fairmont Hotel in Dallas, Texas, on June 21-22, 1999, and will focus on efforts to reduce the disparity of immunization rates among racial and ethnic minorities as compared to the general population.

MAY IS NATIONAL HEPATITIS AWARENESS MONTH

May is National Hepatitis Awareness Month and the Hepatitis Foundation International (HFI) has produced a special product to help get the word out. According to HFI, five million Americans live with the daily reality of viral hepatitis infection and the need for widespread education is greater than ever.

HFI's Hepatitis Awareness Month Kit has materials about hepatitis A-E, how the liver functions in sickness and in health, and information about diagnosis and treatment of carriers. The kit also includes brochures, coloring books, and posters.
