IMMUNIZATION ACTION COALITION'S OFFICES WILL BE CLOSED THE WEEK OF JUNE 21-25 FOR CDC'S
NATIONAL IMMUNIZATION CONFERENCE
The Immunization Action Coalition's office staff will be at CDC's National Immunization
Conference from June 21 through June 25. We will answer our e-mails and phone messages
when we return to the office on Monday, June 28. If you plan to be at the conference, make
sure you visit our booth! We have a present for you that will make using your computer a
lot more fun!

CDC PUBLISHES REPORT ON IMPROVING VACCINATION COVERAGE IN CHILDREN, ADOLESCENTS, AND
ADULTS
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention published "Vaccine-Preventable
Diseases: Improving Vaccination Coverage in Children, Adolescents, and Adults - A Report
on Recommendations of the Task Force on Community Preventive Services" in the MMWR on
June 18, 1999.
The independent, nonfederal Task Force on Community Preventive Services is developing the
"Guide to Community Prevention Services" (the Guide) with the support of the
U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in collaboration with public and private
partners. This report is a chapter of the Guide. The CDC assisted in preparing this
report.
The summary paragraph of this report reads as follows:
"The delivery and acceptance of recommended vaccinations is an ongoing
challenge for health-care providers and health-care and public health systems, but
specific interventions can increase levels of vaccination coverage. The Task Force on
Community Preventive Services has conducted systematic reviews of 17 interventions
designed to raise vaccination coverage levels in children, adolescents, and adults and
made recommendations regarding the use of those interventions. This report provides a
summary of the recommendations; informs readers of sources from which they can obtain the
full review of the interventions and more detail regarding the application of the
interventions at the local level; and informs readers regarding other work of the Task
Force."

AVAILABLE NOW! A LOW-COST CAMPAIGN KIT TO HELP GET ADULTS IN YOUR COMMUNITY IMMUNIZED
A campaign kit to help get adults in your community immunized is now available from the
National Coalition for Adult Immunization (NCAI).
The information is designed to be used during National Adult Immunization Awareness Week
(NAIAW), October 10-16, 1999. The 1999 kit features information and materials including
camera-ready campaign ads and health education pieces for providers and their patients.
The cost for each kit is $15, which includes shipping and handling. To order a campaign
kit, send a written request with a check for $15.00 (for each kit) payable to the National

ESTABLISHING A HEPATITIS B IMMUNIZATION PROGRAM IN A JUVENILE CORRECTION FACILITY? E-MAIL
US AND WE'LL SEND YOU A FREE MANUAL
If you are thinking of establishing a hepatitis B immunization program in a juvenile
correctional facility, the Immunization Action Coalition will send you a free manual (a
3-ring notebook packed full of information) to provide you with guidelines, resources, and
ideas.
"Give Teens A Shot," written by Jerilyn L. Gilbert, MPH, in October 1996, has
been distributed to hundreds of community health institutions that work to immunize
at-risk, incarcerated youth. This manual highlights the State of Oregon's hepatitis B
immunization program which was implemented in selected juvenile corrections facilities.
Here's how to order the manual:

organization, and full mailing address.
- Include a few sentences in your request about how
you are planning to use this manual and we will send you a manual.
