PKIDS STARTS TOLL-FREE NUMBER FOR PARENTS OF CHILDREN WITH INFECTIOUS DISEASES

Parents who are looking for support services, counseling, referrals and information for their children suffering from infectious diseases and/or for themselves, can now call 1-877-55-PKIDS, a toll-free number from Parents of Kids with Infectious Disease (PKIDS). The PKIDS toll-free number is sponsored by a mother of an infected child who feels   strongly that all parents should have access to PKIDS' resources.

Not only does PKIDS offer services to connect parents with similar experiences, but the organization also provides referrals to health organizations, and details about ongoing and upcoming clinical trials for kids living with hepatitis B or hepatitis C. PKIDS is a national nonprofit organization with two major goals - to help families of kids living with  chronic, viral infectious diseases and to educate the public about these diseases. The organization works primarily with hepatitis B and C, HIV/AIDS, herpes and cytomegalovirus (CMV).

SPANISH LANGUAGE VIDEOS OF VACCINE INFORMATION STATEMENTS (VISs) NOW AVAILABLE

The Michigan State University Extension's "Physician Peer Education Project on Immunization" has developed a videotape set of Vaccine Information Statements (VISs) in Spanish. The six videos cover polio, Hib, varicella, DTP, hepatitis B, and MMR. Each video is under ten minutes in length.

Watching these videotapes is an effective and easy way to make sure that Spanish-speaking patients understand the legally required information contained in a VIS. This is a helpful tool for clinics that serve people from Spanish-speaking countries.

The "Vaccine Information Statement Videotape Set - Spanish Edition" costs $25 for six videos, including shipping and handling. Send a check or money order payable to "Michigan State University" to:
